Foreword
We are very happy to present you with the first edition of the International
Sicca Award Booklet. It contains all winners from the Czech Republic,
Germany, Hungary, Poland and Russia in the following two categories -
Research Projects and Future Research Projects. The Sicca Award was started
by the Dry Eye Department of the German Federation of Ophthalmologists
and Bausch & Lomb to encourage upcoming generations of German researchers
and research groups to do research in the field of Dry Eye and ocular
surface diseases. In 2004 the Sicca Award went international and was introduced
in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia. The response to this
unigue Dry Eye initiative was very positive in all countries and attracted
a lot of interest. Many high quality works and projects were submitted,
as you can see from the prize winners in this booklet.
Our special thanks are attributed to the Sicca Award board members in
the countries and their commitment to the project and to take the lead
in Dry Eye research.
Bausch & Lomb is ready to support the Sicca Award in the coming years.
The application procedure has already started for 2005 and we are looking
forward to your numerous applications.
